The question is for everyone, is the chord template sending midi data of the chords or can it send midi data. Does anyone know of any chord template that i can use to send midi data to drive a ketron sd40. Basically I want to drive the styles with chord changes. Please no one answer just play the chords etc. I am a drummer and a singer busy enough as it is. thankyou

Yes. Select a basic style that play a basic chord
It will send the chord to the SD40
Just select the same channel on the SD40

just a little more detail please where do I set the transmitting channel for the chord template

First, search for a style with a simple chord playing during all the time.
Double click on this track, and see what channel it is
Set the same channel on the SD40 for chord recognition

Hi Dan, so I was able to play the varranger through my MS40 (for testing before i purchase the sd40).  Then I changed it that the varranger was simply setting the timing and the style was chosen from the ms40, also works well. Where i am stuck is I can't get the chords to play to trigger the internal styles of the Ms40. When I go to midi channel reception in the ms40 and make changes to the bass and accompanamients I get the varranger data playing through the ms40. Any suggestions.The ms40 for midi channel reception has right, drum, left, bass ,chord1, chord2, chord3. Right now they are all turned off. clock send is on in the varranger, and internal clock set to receive in ms40. Press start on the rhythm section of varranger it works. Chord template not yet. any suggestions

so I plugged in a keyboard with usb into my computer. Midi event in varranger showed I was transmitting on channel 1 into varranger.  Varranger showed left 1 transmitting on channel 4L. So I set up global receive to channel 4 on ms40 everything worked well. Style works with the chord changes I am doing through the keyboard. So why does it not work with the template. I would appreciate any suggestions.

It is not left1, but a style accomp track that need to drive the other arranger
Again, try to find a style with a simple strings or pad sound playing the same simple chord during the whole variation

that's the problem the chords in the template trigger the accompangments and none are simple sounding. Does the chord template transmit the midi data of the chord. That is what i need to transmit the midi data like a keyboard does. Would that be possible, and send that data to left1 for example.

no. simply try many styles, until you find a style with only one chord playing in the variation
The Left 1 track is not playing by song chords, but by manual playing

Can the data of the chord be transmitted somewhere. I want the template chord to be an input, manually as if I was playing the keyboard. Or else I have to look into getting chords triggered by pads. I want the chords in the template to be the midi controller is that possible

Hi Dan, I have not been able to find a simple style. So I downloaded a midi controller program called Xotopad. It is a midi trigger for chords and other things. It needs a virtual midi port, so I dowloaded a program called loopmidi.I installed it on my laptop which will be the controller, varranger is on my desktop. How do I setup the midi I guess i have a send port on the laptop, do i have to install midiloop on the desktop as a midi in.

Everything is working well. Xotopad acts like a keyboard, i am inputting the data on midi in. I have always appreciated your help in answering my questions, unfortunately this time I feel dissappointed.I wanted to use varranger, find another application for varranger, to drive the sd40, You told me to to find a style with a simple chord track, as much as i looked I did not find. My solution now completely makes varranger ineffective. So I go back to my original statement, number one I would like for varranger to be the main component, I love the program, I want the midi data of the chord in the chord template to drive the sd40, like a keyboard drives it in midi in and you can see the midi events. Is that possible, if not why and please don't answer find a simple style. the answer i am looking for is something like the data is not there, it is too much to program. etc. Once again thankyou for all your help and in making varranger a great program.

The easiest way to get what you want is to open a Midi Editor and create
one bar that contains a chord that is a crotchet in duration with notes CEGC
Copy this 200 times to create 200 Bars and save as ChordOnlyStyle.mid
Now change its name to ChordOnlyStyle.sty and load it into vArranger.
Set up your MS40 for NTA to be on same channel as vArranger and set
MS40 midi clock sync to have vArranger as Master and now vArranger will
drive your MS40 with either the Chord in vArranger Chords or Chords
that you play on Midi Keyboard connected to vArranger.
You will need to mute the Volume on the NTA channel if you dont want to
hear the chords from ChordOnlyStyle.sty.

I have seen it is not that easy  if you play some complex chords.
Most of the time the CM7 chord will play a Em and let the bass play the C
So I will try to create a style for you that work with the CMaj7 chord

Hi eallan thankyou for the response, I don't understand fully what you say and it might work, and that is the problem I don't want to get too technical. This is the challenge i see I was driving the ms40 wiith a midi keyboard, i installed it and under the midi event screen you see all the midi data being transmitted when you press a chord etc. The xotopad I am using is also a midi controller pad that can transmit anything midi, but i don't have to learn chord positions on a keyboard. So what I was hoping for is that do the chords in the chord template progam transmit a midi signal. That is what i want to capture. I want the chord template to act like a midi controller keyboard.
