I can confirm, that it works if I change the RIGHT track. But this way I can only save RIGHT1, and not RIGHT2, RIGHT3, RIGHT4 and 2ND VOICE into the song.

Do I need to save all this settings to left and right SOUND configs and then manually activate them after loading the song?
#2
1. I select a song from my songs.
2. I select a different instrument for RIGHT1
3. I save the song using the SAVE button and selecting SONG from the menu
4. I check the option "SAVE ALL:" and click on "SAVE" in the dialog

During the last step I can see, that the selected Instrument from RIGHT1 is reverted to the original selection. When I load reload the song by first selecting another song then I dont see my changes to the instrument of RIGHT1.

The same is true for other instruments in the Arranger Section. I'm unable to save the song with my selected instruments.

Using Version 1.9.13

Has this been implemented?
I have a AKAI MPK Keyboard with Drumpads too.
The pads should be able to send midi data to the styles drum track.

Bass-Track in this Style is not active, that means there are
no Notes or Controllers on this Bass-Track. Try the same
with one Style in which Bass-Track is active, it will be OK !!!

I wanted to save some setups without automatic accompaniment. Just manual bass and accords. Unfortunately, we can only save the sound for left and right. And left means only the accords, not the bass.

it should.
Can you do a little video or pictures that show the problem?

Audio is a little quiet.

It seems to only store the predefined sounds. It doesn't do this for Sounds from ans INS file.

I have an INS-File from a Sound-Module (Blueline Soloist). This module provides several different Bass instruments. I did not find any way to save these instruments to a song or favourite or sound. I have always to go back to INS/VST and reselect it from there. Is there any better way to select different Bass instruments from a external sound module?

I have converted the video, so it plays with Windows Media Player too.

I just downloaded it from a different computer and can view it with VLC player without a problem. But I see that Windows Media Player flickers alot. Could you try with VLC player?

I have tried many ways to change the midi out of RIGHT 1 and recorded it in a small video. What am I doing wrong?

When I select one of the sounds in the list on the right, which all come from vArranger synthesizer then the output channel on RIGHT 1 changes to "MIDI OUT 1". But when I reload the style afterwards, the output for RIGHT 1 reverts to "MIDI OUT 2". Somehow the song (or style) contains information about the midi out channel. Also I'm a bit confused on how to use the master track for right. It displays a different name and sometimes I have to change the sound on this track, in order to get a different sound for RIGHT 1.

I also tried to change the startup configuration after changing RIGHT 1 to MIDI OUT 1, but that did not help. After clicking on the "Song/Style" on the left bar, it always reverts to "MIDI OUT 2".

I'm trying to remove Hypersonic from my setup for testing. So I went to the RIGHT 1 track and selected "SEND TO MIDI OUT 1", which is the vArranger Software Synthesizer. I also removed the checkmark on "SEND TO MIDI OUT 2", which used to be the HyperSonic VST. Then I go and save the song again with all checkmarks on (SAVE ALL). When I now check the midi out channel of RIGHT 1, it returned to "SEND TO MIDI OUT 2".

How do we change the midi out setup of a song?

I have played on virtual piano both with left and right side. There was not a single note hanging in one hour. I think this happens only during chord recognition.

One additional thing: When the wrong chords are being displayed and played then I can change the chord with I touch one of basic basses, then the chord changes too. But it never changes to the right chord. As I understood the chord should only change when I press another chord. Is that right?

I think using the OPTIONS / CONTROLLER window is not a good option for finding that problem. It is just too much data.

Yes, I tried without loading any style, but this worked without a problem. I tried some fast and some slow tunes.

I do have some other problem with my midi accordion, but I think this is the expression controller. Although I keep the bellows closed, sometimes the volume goes down. There is a pressure sensor for volume in the bellows, but I want to switch it off.

Do you know a good tool to detect, if a midi device does not send note off events?

I tested with the UM-2G - but still, I have wrong chord recognition. It happens in almost every piece of music that I play. In this case I stop the accompaniment and then press the panic button several times. Then it works for a (short) while.

In order to find out the reason of this, I was looking at the midi event list. But this list always contain the same 2688 events - no matter what I do. I wanted to see what the accordion sends to vArranger, when the chord recognition does not work anymore. Is there a way to do this?

I have just installed your latest version. This seems to be more stable - at least I could not reproduce the error in 15 min.  :)
I have a Cakewalk UM-2 G cable too. I will try it - once I see the problems again.

I just had the error again. This time the number in the begin of the error message was counting up fast (> 500000). I could still play the right side, but the accompaniment was not working anymore. It happened shortly after I needed to click the panic button again. This time it was, because of chord recognition was not working anymore. It detected wrong accords all the time. Usually this gets fixed by clicking a few times on the panic button.

I was using the attached style. But before this message I did some clicks on the panic button, because vArranger did not respond anymore and the screen was frozen. After one or two minutes, it started to work again - but then this message showed up.

Yes, I do understand. Great job anyway!  :)

Now and then I get error messages during playing. I thought it would be good, if I start posting them here. Please let me know, if this is not appropriate.

I'll try to translate the message from German to English:

3738 - Error no 5 in cT1(): The index is out of range. It may not be negative and smaller as the list. Parameter name: index.

Very nice tutorial for vArranger! Too bad it is only in french. And Google does not a good job in translating it.  :(

Impressive setup.  I can imagine that it makes a difference to route groups of instruments to different speakers. But I suspect that vArranger only supports one (stereo) channel, as you cannot select different audio channels on the tracks.
#23
Does this mean that you have connected one separate loudspeaker to each channel?

In this case, I have only activated the checkmark near "SEND TO MIDI OUT 2: VST" and then the only VST selected was "01 HYPERSONIC".

You are right. I was in GM mode. Removing the plugin and adding it again fixed the problem.
One issue still exists: On the track it does not display the correct patch name. It does display something with VSTi ->, but a different name.  :-\

Hello Dan,

the patch selection for HyperSonic does not work on my system. Sometimes it chooses a different patch in hypersonic, but that patch does not match the patchname in the INS window. Clicking on alternatives switches the displayed page instead of switching the patch. Do you need more information? How can I help?

You can try now the INS screen, the new button VST, or clicking on the vst rack number, will show you all the bank and sounds of HyperSonic 2 inside vArranger

Do I need an update first?  I have v1.17.94.
How do we get updates?

Great work Dan! I can't wait to have this :-)

However, it seems that very few VST plugins support this method. I scanned my VST folder with VSTSpy and even downloaded some other VSTi bundles. But HyperSonic remains the only one which VSTSpy reports as "yes" for midiProgramNames.

I'll keep my eyes open!

I have looked at the Hypersonic Patch List. However, it seems to different from what I have installed. I think the list leaves out the demo modules. Also, I could not correlate the program numbers and bank names with the docs.

Quote from: Hypersonic Documentation
You may alternatively check the bank/patch selector of your host's MIDI track. If it complies fully to the VST 2.0 standard, you can browse and select your Hypersonic 2 patches directly from within the track.

VSTSpy finds out, that Hypersonic supports midiProgramNames. Maybe this is the old 2.0 style of querying the list of patches?

Yes, I see - its in the wiki:

http://www.varranger.com/wiki/index.php/VSTi

- Some plugins have PROGRAMS. They are predefined factory presets. If some are present, you will see the rack line number lightened (1). Clicking on it will allow you to see and select a program.

I did search for an INS file, but did not find any.   :-\

Thanks alot for the answers. Yes, I think we would need a Sonar INS file for HyperSonic to benefit from all the good sounds beyond general midi. Would it (theoretically) be possible to generate an INS file from a VST host application? I found methods like getProgramListCount() and getProgramName() in the VST3 SDK.

Happy new year to all!

> Set vArranger MIDI OUT in GM2 mode

I have already set it to GM2 mode. I understand that we should use GM2 as long as we don't have external (hardware-) synths.

Can you tell me how the list of sounds/instruments on the upper right side of the vArranger screen is build? Is it a dynamic list or is it fix coded? Can I configure this list somehow?

I try to use HyperSonic 2 as main sound source. It does work somehow, but the sounds are far away from a "General Midi"-setup. Selecting something from the right sound bars does change the sound, but there are only a few sounds available in each group. And most of them do not sound like their description on the button label.
I try to make the vArranger styles work. Do I need a INS-File for that?

How does vArranger get knowledge of the possible sounds of the VST plugin? Does it automatically create buttons on the right for those sounds?
#35
I have exactly the same problem: I have many SoundFonts from Live-Styler that I want to reuse. But many of them use 0-0-0 as address (msb-lsb-programchange). So it is hard or impossible to find them in the "INS"-Window of vArranger. The current version of vArranger seems to not support this file renaming scheme. Does anybody know of a tool how I could change the "mapping" of the sound fonts into vArranger. It is also very cumbersome to save each of them seperately in a track - as there are many files.
