Title: vArranger Sound Banks
Post by: eallan on August 23, 2019, 08:11:51 PM
Just purchased all 4 Sound Banks today.
Makes a BIG difference - well done to Dan and anyone else involved in creating these.
If anyone else is thinking about getting them - I suggest you go ahead.
Do any Sound Bank Users have Tips/Hints about how to get the most out of them?

Thank you !
You can read this too : https://www.varranger.com/wiki/index.php?title=SF2

You can mix many sounds together from the different banks to get some interesting layers

Dan ,
The Chorus Effect is working OK for the Sound Bank Voices , but
I can't get the Reverb to work.
Tried loading a couple of other Reverbs without suceess , yet
Reverb is working ok for e.g. Yamaha XG Synthesizer.
Should it be working for Sound Bank Voices too?

If you use the 32 bit Synth, you should use 32 bit VST
If you use the 64 bit Synth, you should use 64 bit VST

What VST did you try for the reverb?
Do you see its interface?

This is on Windows XP SP3 x32 and using 32 bit VSTs.
Noticed there was no reverb with built in reverb ,
so tried uHe Protoverb v1.0 and then latest
TAL-Reverb-4 v2.0.0Beta.
Both Reverb interfaces show ok and I set them both as suggested.
(0% dry and 100% Wet)
No reverb on Sound Bank Voices but reverb ok on Yamaha XG Synth voices.

Do you use ASIO Audio out?

Using Direct Sound : Realtek HD Audio Output as its more stable.
Ah , when I switch to Asio4All the Reverb is working but not so good audio.

You once said that the previous ASIO4ALL version was OK for your setup?

It improved after I went back to Asio4All v2.13.
When I installed the updated vArranger from vArranger2GM2
zip file I used the .ini file from there in case there were settings for Sound Banks.
I forgot that I would have to change setting for Asio back to
Audio OUT LatencyMS=8
Better now.

Yes, windows XP starts to become old, and vArranger is a miracle to be able to play in realtime on XP
Most of audio software abandoned XP
It is true that Microsoft improved audio support on the newer OS... But sometimes we may have surprises

It should sound a lot better now with a good reverb.
Try removing your reverb, to get the original reverb back

Have now returned to the original TAL Reverb 4 Plugin v1.2.0.
XP is getting old now!
Will have to look at getting a more modern system with more RAM
and a touchscreen.
How much RAM is ideal for vArranger?

I purchased all of the Sound Banks a few years ago and they are really good, automatically selects the right setup for the different format of styles.
What I am doing is playing VArranger on Computer 1 and recording in realtime into a DAW on Computer 2.
I set the tempos to the same value, but the timings of the recordings are always slightly out, it either slightly slows down, speeds up or both.
This causes problems if I want to quantize any additional tracks that I may record.
A way round this would be to record the backing track on VArranger and save it as a midifile and load the midfile into the DAW.
BUT,,,,, I need the Sound Bank Voices in my DAW to produce the same sounds.
Surely this can be implemented!!!!

This would involve creating a VSTi soft from vArranger software Synthesizer can be .
Not sure Dan considered this option yet, but who knows?

It should be nice, however I am afraid I will not have time to do this soon
Maybe a vArranger 'expander' version than can accept music on its 16 midi channels
