Title: can vArranger interface with Ketron K8 and 13 switch and 6 switch pedals.
Post by: jbg31792 on December 10, 2015, 06:19:42 AM
Hi Dan,

Ive sold my MidJay Plus module that I used to play the K8 with. And have donated the K8 to a pastor of a church. Im trying to advise him to purchase the SD2, $399.00 at Amazon, and the vArranger2 $439.00 totaling $838.00. Instead of recommending his purchasing the MidJay Plus.

I want to be sure that connecting the Midi OUT from the K8 to the MIDI IN of the Roland audio interface  And the MIDI out of the audio interface to the MIDI IN of the SD2 will control the chords, and the incidentals (minors etc.), and the  K8 along with the Ketron 13 switch and 6 switch pedal would control the vArranger2s functions.

The pastor said it was important for him that when the vArranger Style would stop, that the K8 could still sound the chords. Could you tell me if it will?

Thanks,

John Graham

Beside this, will he use a guitar or a keyboard?

He plays guitar. And he would like his wife to sustain chords when he's not playing the pedals himself using styles. Kind of like an acapello thing when the styles are off.

With the MidJay Plus, the 15 pin connector from the FS 13 and FS 6 would plug directly into the MidJay Plus, and along with the K8 would control the vArrangers styles and chords.

My question, is how would the K8 and FS13 and FS6 connect to the SD2, since the SD2 doesn't have the 15 pin connector like the MidJay Plus has.

The MIDI from the K8 could plug into the SD2 with new problem.

Thanks,

John

Just to be sure. With the K8, he will play, for example one note C for C major chords, and 2 notes C an Eb to get a Eb minor chord? Also in arranger stop mode, you can play notes with the K8, but if you want a 3 notes chord you need 3 feets :)

Or, he need to switch to another style that has some long chords playing with not rythm, like some of the Yamaha ethereal styles

Can the vArranger assign different chords, like a minor and a minor 7th, chord to the Ketron SW 6 switch pedal?
So if I'm playing  an A chord on the K8, and then press the SW 6 pedal that through the vArranger I've assigned an A minor 7th designation, then an A minor 7th chord will play.

Can the k8, without the Ketron SW13 and SW6, drive the chord changes for the vArranger styles?

And when the style has stopped, can the K8 and vArranger produce a a sustained triad chord for each major and minor bass pedal that is pushed?

I saw the SD2 for $390.00 at Ketron US, and the vArranger is $385.00 totaling $775.00, compared to around $2500.00 plus for the MidJay pro and MidJay Plus. Not to mention the combination of the vArranger with the SD2 is a far superior product.

So I'm hoping there's a way he can sustain chords with the K8 and vArranger when the style is stopped using two feet to make the minor changes.

In STOP mode, For now, you will hear the notes that you play with the K8 that can be sustained with a nice bass note, but not a full chord, if you play only one or 2 notes
This option can be added later

For now you can load a style with a sustained chord

In the stop mode, how can you assign through the vArranger a Hammond B3 voice to  the K8 to sound on top a of the bass note?

Could you please send me some styles with a sustained chord, and some of the Yamaha Etheral styles as well?

Thanks Dan,

John

Put the Hammond sound in the LEFT 1 or 2 or 3 track

Here is a style example
The yamaha .fps styles are free play styles, so there is not rythm on them. You can start and forget

Thank you Dan,

With these free play styles from Yamaha playing through the vArranger, and in stop mode to have the ability to sound Different voices on the K8 with at least one and two notes sounding, for example a Hammond B3 with the bass note on the bottom, my friend will have the best of both worlds.

Thank you for taking the time to make this clear to me.

My friends name is Pastor Pye.

Merry Christmas,

John
